Cotton Parish Council is an elected body which gives views on planning applications and other proposals that affect the Parish, they also undertake projects that benefit local residents; work in partnership with others to benefit the Parish; advise relevant authorities on problems or action that is needed and help the other tiers of local government to engage with, and understand ther local communities.
 
Cotton Parish Council have seven seats all filled by residents who give their time freely and who serve the Council in terms of four years.
 
The Parish Council is funded by levying a tax on all eligible residents known as the Precept; this is the Parish Councils share of the Council tax.
